My Connection

Cropped.DSC_0275_pp - CopyHello and welcome to my blog. My name is Mary K. Doyle and I LOVE Saint Theodora, also known as Saint Mother Theodore and I think you soon will love her too. You will find through my posts that she was a very wise and holy woman with such a practical sense about her that her words and example continue to offer relevant guidance and insight.

My interest in this saint was sparked in January of 2001 when I began a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Theology program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, which was founded by Saint Theodora in 1840. While attending the school, I was very aware of her spiritual presence on the campus and humbled to be walking the same ground that she did. The possibility of her being named a saint by the Catholic Church added to the awe that surrounded her.

On October 15, 2006 Mother Theodore Guérin was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in Saint Peter’s Square, Vatican City, Italy. It was my great privilege to attend this very spiritually and emotionally moving event along with hundreds of sisters, alumnae, current students, friends and employees of the “Woods.”

Pope Benedict called her Saint Theodora as well as Saint Mother Theodore. Either name may be used correctly, although those connected with the Woods almost entirely call her Saint Mother Theodore Guérin while the general public knows her as Saint Theodora.

In honor of her sainthood, I assisted ACTA Publications in editing the reissue of the biography of Mother Theodore by Katherine Burton (who is long deceased) under the new title, The Eighth American Saint. I added a Foreword and Afterword to bring readers up to date on the canonization.

I also wrote the book, Seven Principles of Sainthood Following Saint Mother Theodore Guérin, which illustrates how we may apply ways in which this saint lived to our own lives and the children s book, Saint Theodora and Her Promise to God, recipient of an Honorable Mention from the 2014 Catholic Press Association book awards, which I wrote in collaboration with the Sisters of Providence.

In addition, I am the author of Mentoring Heroes, The Rosary Prayer by Prayer, Grieving with Mary, Young in the Spirit, also a recipient of an Honorable Mention from the 2014 CPA book awards, and Navigating Alzheimer’s.

(For more information on my books or to place an order, please see my website: Mary K. Doyle or Amazon. You can pick up the links to these books to my website on the sidebar on the left of this blog.)

I began my writing career more than forty years ago and, in addition to the books, have written hundreds of feature and news articles for magazines and newspapers, promotional materials for companies of all sizes, and copy for radio, cable television, and electronic media. I also speak on the topics of Mariology, Saint Theodore/Mother Theodore Guerin, and mentoring.

I am married with adult children, children-in-law, step-children and step-grandchildren, a large extended, interactive family and wide circle of loving friends. I also am an active parishioner of St Peter Church in Illinois.

Please check back with this blog often and comment. You are a valued and integral part of it. When you post your thoughts, ideas and opinions you contribute to and enrich our discussions. I look forward to hearing from you.

P.S.

Book reviews from my site, Doyle’s Delights, also appear on this blog. Although these books are not about Saint Theodora, they are about faithful living, which is in line with her teachings.
